PDF Conversion
PDF to Word, Excel, and other formats
The best way to convert PDF to Word is using our online converter with OCR support. Upload your PDF, select "PDF to Word," enable OCR for scanned documents, and download your editable DOCX file. For best results, use high-quality source PDFs with clear text. Our converter preserves fonts, images, and formatting better than most alternatives.
You can convert PDF to Word for free using SwiftFileConvert. Simply upload your PDF file (up to 100MB), select PDF to Word conversion, and download your DOCX file instantly. No registration, no watermarks, completely free. Our service uses advanced OCR technology to handle both text-based and scanned PDFs.
Yes, our OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology converts scanned PDFs and images of text into editable Word documents. Enable the OCR option when converting, and our system will recognize text in scanned documents, photos, or image-based PDFs. For best results, ensure scans are at least 300 DPI and have good contrast.
Converting PDF tables to Excel is easy with our intelligent table recognition. Upload your PDF containing tables, select "PDF to Excel," and our AI-powered converter will extract tables into properly formatted Excel spreadsheets. The converter preserves cell formatting, recognizes table structures, and handles multi-page tables.
Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before conversion. If you have the password, open the PDF in a reader, enter the password, and use "Print to PDF" to create an unprotected copy first. Then upload the unprotected PDF to SwiftFileConvert. We cannot bypass password protection for security and legal reasons.
Use our PDF merger tool to combine multiple PDFs. Upload all the PDF files you want to merge, arrange them in your desired order by dragging, and click merge. You can also select specific page ranges from each PDF. The merged file maintains quality and bookmarks from the original files.
To split a PDF, use our PDF splitter tool. Upload your PDF, select the pages you want to extract (either individual pages or ranges), and choose whether to create separate files for each page or group them. You can extract specific pages, remove unwanted pages, or split by page ranges.
Use our PDF compressor to reduce file size. Upload your PDF, select your compression level (Low for minimal compression, Medium for balanced, or High for maximum compression), and download the optimized file. Compression works by optimizing images and removing redundant data while preserving text quality. High compression may slightly reduce image quality.
Convert PDF to JPG by uploading your PDF, selecting "PDF to JPG," choosing your desired quality/DPI (72 DPI for web, 300 DPI for print), and downloading the images. You can convert all pages or select specific page ranges. Each page becomes a separate JPG image, packaged in a ZIP file for easy downloading.
To convert JPG to PDF, upload your JPG images, select "JPG to PDF," arrange them in order if needed, choose page settings (size, orientation, margins), and convert. You can combine multiple images into a single PDF, making it perfect for creating photo albums, document scans, or portfolios from images.
To make a PDF editable, convert it to Word (DOCX) format using our PDF to Word converter. The resulting Word document can be edited in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or any word processor. For forms, you may need to recreate them in Word or use specialized PDF form editing software after conversion.
Extract text from PDF using our PDF to Text converter. Upload your PDF, select text extraction, and download a plain text file containing all the text content. For scanned PDFs, enable OCR to recognize text from images. This creates a clean TXT file perfect for copying quotes, data analysis, or accessibility purposes.
Our converter preserves most formatting including fonts, images, tables, bullet points, and page layouts. However, complex layouts with multiple columns, intricate designs, or unusual fonts may require minor adjustments after conversion. For best results, use standard fonts (Arial, Times New Roman) and simple layouts in your source PDF.
When you convert a PDF form to Word using our converter, the form fields become editable text. However, to recreate fillable form fields, you'll need to use Microsoft Word's form controls or dedicated PDF form software. The conversion preserves the layout and text, making it easier to rebuild interactive forms.
Remove pages from a PDF using our PDF page remover. Upload your PDF, select the pages you want to delete, and download the modified PDF with those pages removed. You can also use the PDF splitter to extract only the pages you want to keep, effectively removing the unwanted ones.
Yes, use our PDF organizer tool to reorder pages. Upload your PDF, drag and drop pages into your desired order, and download the reorganized file. You can also duplicate pages, rotate pages, or delete unwanted pages while reordering. This is useful for rearranging presentation slides or report sections.
While SwiftFileConvert focuses on format conversion, we recommend using dedicated PDF security tools for password protection. Convert your document to PDF first, then use Adobe Acrobat, PDFtk, or similar tools to add password protection. Look for "PDF encryption" or "PDF password protection" tools for this purpose.
PDFs become large due to high-resolution images, embedded fonts, and unnecessary metadata. Use our PDF compressor to reduce file size by optimizing images (reducing resolution to 150 DPI for web), removing redundant data, and compressing content. For image-heavy PDFs, converting images to JPG before creating the PDF also helps reduce size.
If your PDF is corrupted, try these solutions: 1) Open it in a PDF reader and use "Print to PDF" to create a fresh copy, 2) Use PDF repair tools first, 3) Try converting individual pages separately, 4) Check if the file opens correctly before uploading. If problems persist, the PDF may be severely damaged and require specialized recovery tools.
Printing issues after conversion may be due to: 1) Font substitution - ensure fonts are embedded, 2) Page size mismatch - check paper size settings, 3) Image resolution - verify images are at least 300 DPI for print, 4) Color profile - use CMYK for professional printing. Try printing to PDF first to preview, then adjust settings accordingly.
Document Conversion
Word, Excel, PowerPoint conversions
Convert Word to PDF for free using SwiftFileConvert. Upload your DOC or DOCX file, select "Word to PDF," choose your quality settings, and download your PDF instantly. The conversion preserves formatting, fonts, images, and layout. No Microsoft Office required - our converter works independently in your browser.
Convert Excel to PDF by uploading your XLSX or XLS file, selecting "Excel to PDF," choosing whether to include all sheets or specific ones, setting page orientation (portrait or landscape), and converting. The resulting PDF preserves your formatting, charts, and cell styling. Perfect for sharing reports that shouldn't be edited.
Convert PowerPoint to PDF by uploading your PPT or PPTX file, selecting "PowerPoint to PDF," choosing your layout preferences (slides per page, notes inclusion), and converting. The PDF will maintain your slide layouts, fonts, and images. Note that animations and transitions become static in PDF format.
Convert CSV to Excel by uploading your CSV file, selecting "CSV to Excel," choosing your delimiter (comma, semicolon, or tab), setting data type detection preferences, and converting. The converter creates a properly formatted XLSX file with appropriate column widths, data formatting, and Excel features enabled.
Export Excel to CSV by uploading your XLSX file, selecting "Excel to CSV," choosing your delimiter (comma for most systems), selecting UTF-8 encoding for international characters, and converting. The resulting CSV file is lightweight, universally compatible, and perfect for importing into databases or other systems.
Convert Apple Pages to Word by uploading your .pages file, selecting "Pages to Word," and converting to DOCX format. This allows you to open and edit Pages documents on Windows computers or in Microsoft Word. The converter preserves text formatting, images, and most layout elements from the original Pages document.
Yes, convert Apple Numbers spreadsheets to Excel by uploading your .numbers file, selecting "Numbers to Excel," and converting to XLSX. The conversion preserves formulas (when compatible), formatting, charts, and data structure. This makes Numbers files accessible in Excel on Windows and for users without Apple devices.
Convert Keynote to PowerPoint by uploading your .key or .keynote file, selecting "Keynote to PowerPoint," and converting to PPTX. This allows you to present on Windows computers or share with PowerPoint users. Most content converts well, though some Keynote-specific animations and effects may be simplified.
Convert ODS (OpenDocument Spreadsheet) to Excel by uploading your file, selecting "ODS to Excel," and converting to XLSX format. This ensures compatibility with Microsoft Excel and enterprise systems. The converter preserves formulas, formatting, and data structure from the original OpenOffice or LibreOffice Calc file.
Yes, convert ODT (OpenDocument Text) to Word by uploading your file, selecting "ODT to Word," and converting to DOCX. This makes OpenOffice or LibreOffice documents compatible with Microsoft Word. The conversion preserves text formatting, styles, images, and document structure for seamless cross-platform collaboration.
Convert RTF (Rich Text Format) to Word by uploading your RTF file, selecting "RTF to Word," and converting to DOCX. RTF is an older format with limited features. Converting to DOCX enables full Word functionality including advanced formatting, styles, themes, and modern features while preserving your existing content.
Convert plain text (TXT) to Word by uploading your text file, selecting "TXT to Word," and converting to DOCX. This adds Word formatting capabilities to plain text. You can then apply fonts, styles, colors, and other formatting to your document. The conversion preserves line breaks and paragraph structure from the original text file.
Formatting may be lost due to: 1) Font incompatibility - use standard fonts like Arial or Times New Roman, 2) Complex layouts - simplify tables and columns, 3) Software-specific features - avoid proprietary features, 4) Image positioning - use inline images when possible. For best results, use simple, standard formatting that's widely supported across platforms.
When converting between Excel formats (XLS, XLSX, ODS), formulas are generally preserved. However, when converting to non-spreadsheet formats like PDF or CSV, formulas are converted to their calculated values. To preserve formulas, stick to spreadsheet-to-spreadsheet conversions. Always verify important formulas after conversion.
In Google Docs, use File > Download > Microsoft Word (.docx) or PDF. Alternatively, download your Google Doc first, then upload it to SwiftFileConvert for additional format options. Our converter can process DOCX files to many other formats including older Word versions, PDF with specific settings, or other document formats.
Image Conversion
JPG, PNG, WebP, and image optimization
Convert JPG to PNG with transparency by uploading your JPG, selecting "JPG to PNG," and choosing the transparency option. Note that JPGs don't have transparency, so you'll need to specify which color should become transparent (usually white background). The resulting PNG supports full transparency for web graphics and design work.
Reduce PNG file size by converting to JPG. Upload your PNG, select "PNG to JPG," set quality to 80-90% for best size-to-quality ratio, and convert. JPG compression significantly reduces file size compared to PNG, making it ideal for web use, email, and faster loading. Note: transparency will be replaced with a background color.
WebP is Google's modern image format that provides 25-35% smaller file sizes than JPG/PNG with similar quality. Use WebP for websites and apps to improve loading speed. However, older browsers (pre-2020 Safari) may not support it. For universal compatibility, provide JPG/PNG fallbacks alongside WebP images.
Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG by uploading the .HEIC file, selecting "HEIC to JPG," choosing your quality setting (90% recommended), and converting. This makes iPhone photos compatible with Windows, Android, and all devices. The conversion preserves photo quality while ensuring universal compatibility for sharing and viewing.
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is a vector format that scales to any display resolution without quality loss. Use SVG for logos, icons, charts, and graphics that need to display crisply across screens. Unlike JPG/PNG (raster formats), SVGs are code-based and ideal for responsive web design. Convert simple logos and graphics to SVG for best results on all devices.
Resize images without quality loss by uploading your image, selecting "Resize Image," choosing your target dimensions, and maintaining the aspect ratio. For downscaling (making smaller), quality is preserved. Avoid upscaling (making larger) beyond original size as this creates pixelation. Use our resizer for social media dimensions, profile pictures, and web optimization.
Compress images for web by uploading them, selecting "Compress Image," choosing 60-80% quality (sweet spot for web), and downloading. For photos, use JPG at 70-80% quality. For graphics with transparency, use PNG. Consider WebP for modern browsers. Our compressor optimizes file size while maintaining visual quality for faster website loading.
Convert TIFF to JPG by uploading your TIFF file, selecting "TIFF to JPG," setting quality to 90-95% for professional photos, and converting. TIFF files are large and used for professional editing. Converting to JPG makes them suitable for web, email, and sharing while maintaining excellent visual quality with much smaller file sizes.
Convert BMP to JPG by uploading your BMP file, selecting "BMP to JPG," setting quality (90% recommended), and converting. BMP files are uncompressed and very large. JPG conversion typically reduces file size by 90% or more while maintaining visual quality. This is ideal for sharing, web use, and email.
DPI (dots per inch) for print, PPI (pixels per inch) for digital. Use 72-96 PPI for web images, 150 PPI for draft printing, and 300 PPI for professional print quality. Higher values don't improve web display but increase file size. Match your DPI/PPI to your intended use for optimal file sizes and quality.
To make a background transparent, first convert your image to PNG format (which supports transparency). Then use an image editor to remove the background and save as PNG. Our converter can convert to PNG, but removing backgrounds requires editing software like Photoshop, GIMP, or online background removal tools.
Yes, use our batch conversion feature. Upload multiple images (up to your file size limit total), select the output format, choose settings that apply to all files, and convert. All images will be processed in parallel and packaged in a ZIP file for easy download. Perfect for converting entire photo albums or image collections.
Choose formats based on use: JPG for photographs (smaller size, good quality), PNG for graphics with transparency, WebP for web (best compression), SVG for logos/icons (scalable), GIF for simple animations. For email and web, use JPG at 80% quality. For professional printing, use PNG or TIFF at 300 DPI.
Create ICO files for favicons by uploading your image (usually a logo), selecting "Convert to ICO," and downloading the ICO file. For best results, start with a square PNG image at least 256x256 pixels. The converter will generate multiple sizes within the ICO file for different uses (browser tabs, bookmarks, Windows icons).
While SwiftFileConvert focuses on common formats, RAW conversion requires specialized software like Adobe Lightroom, Capture One, or camera manufacturer software. These programs handle the complex processing needed for RAW files including color correction, white balance, and demosaicing. Convert RAW to JPG using dedicated photography software first.

Technical Support
Troubleshooting and technical help
Common reasons for conversion failure: 1) Corrupted file - try opening it first, 2) Password protection - remove passwords before uploading, 3) File too large - ensure under 100MB, 4) Unsupported format - check our supported formats list, 5) Browser issues - try a different browser or clear cache. If problems persist, contact support with your file type and error message.
If your format isn't directly supported, try: 1) Converting to an intermediate format first (e.g., your format → PDF → Word), 2) Using the source software to export to a supported format, 3) Contacting us to request the format - we regularly add new formats based on user requests. The homepage uploader lists every format currently supported.
Slow conversions can be due to: 1) Large file size - videos and large PDFs take longer, 2) Complex content - OCR on scanned documents takes time, 3) Server load - peak times may be slower, 4) Internet speed - affects upload/download times. Most conversions complete in seconds; if taking more than 5 minutes, try refreshing or contact support.
Try these solutions: 1) Clear browser cache and cookies, 2) Disable browser extensions (especially ad blockers), 3) Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari), 4) Update your browser to the latest version, 5) Disable VPN/proxy temporarily, 6) Try incognito/private mode. If issues persist, try the mobile version or contact support.
If upload is stuck: 1) Check your internet connection, 2) Refresh the page and try again, 3) Try a smaller file size, 4) Use a different browser, 5) Disable VPN/proxy, 6) Check if your firewall is blocking uploads. If consistently stuck at a certain percentage, your file may be too large or your connection unstable.
Download issues may be due to: 1) File already deleted (after 2 hours), 2) Browser blocking downloads - check download settings, 3) Antivirus blocking - temporarily disable to test, 4) Insufficient storage - check disk space, 5) Network issues - try again later. Make sure to download files immediately after conversion.
Corrupted output may result from: 1) Source file was already corrupted, 2) Complex formatting that doesn't translate well, 3) Insufficient memory during conversion (try smaller files), 4) Browser timeout for large files. Try converting in smaller chunks, simplifying the source file, or using a different format. Contact us with the specific file types involved.
Formatting differences occur because: 1) Different programs render formatting differently, 2) Fonts may not be available on all systems, 3) Complex layouts may shift, 4) Software-specific features don't transfer. Use standard fonts, simple layouts, and check results. Some manual adjustment after conversion is normal, especially for complex documents.
For mobile issues: 1) Use a strong WiFi connection (mobile data may be slow/unstable), 2) Close other apps to free memory, 3) Use Chrome or Safari (most compatible), 4) For large files, use desktop instead, 5) Clear browser cache, 6) Try desktop mode in your browser. Mobile conversion works best for documents and small images under 20MB.
Contact us through: 1) Email: contact@swiftfileconvert.com, or 2) the contact form on our website. Please include: your file type, desired output format, error message (if any), and browser/device used. We typically respond within 24 hours, often much faster.
File Formats
Supported formats and compatibility
We support 49 formats including: Documents (PDF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, RTF, TXT), Spreadsheets (XLS, XLSX, CSV, ODS, TSV), Presentations (PPT, PPTX, ODP), Images (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, SVG, TIFF, HEIC, BMP, ICO), E-books (EPUB), Archives (ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2), and developer files (JSON, XML, YAML, Markdown, SQL, JS, TS, Python, Java, C, C++, Go, Rust, Ruby, PHP, Shell). The homepage uploader lists every supported format.
DOC is the older Word format (1997-2003) using binary encoding. DOCX is the modern format (2007+) using XML-based open standard. DOCX files are smaller, more stable, compatible with more programs, and support modern features. Always use DOCX when possible. Our converter can convert between both formats and to/from other formats.
XLS is the older Excel binary format (pre-2007). XLSX is the modern XML-based format with better features, smaller file sizes, improved recovery, and wider compatibility. XLSX supports more rows (1M+ vs 65K), better formatting, and modern Excel features. Use XLSX for all new work. Our converter handles both formats.
ODT (OpenDocument Text), ODS (Spreadsheet), and ODP (Presentation) are open-source document formats used by LibreOffice, OpenOffice, and other free office suites. They're ISO standards ensuring long-term accessibility. While open, they have less universal support than Microsoft formats. Our converter can convert between open formats and Microsoft formats.
ZIP: Universal support, fast compression, standard format. RAR: Better compression than ZIP, but requires WinRAR or compatible software. 7Z: Best compression ratio, open source, but less universal support. For sharing, use ZIP. For maximum compression, use 7Z. RAR is proprietary. Our converter can extract and convert between archive formats.
EPUB: Open standard, reflowable text, works on most e-readers except Kindle. MOBI/AZW: Amazon Kindle proprietary format. PDF: Fixed layout, universal compatibility, but doesn't reflow on small screens. For Kindle, use MOBI. For other e-readers, use EPUB. For exact layout preservation, use PDF. Our converter handles all e-book formats.
Raster images (JPG, PNG, GIF) are pixel-based and have fixed resolution - they become pixelated when enlarged. Vector images (SVG, AI, EPS) are math-based and scale to any display resolution without quality loss. Use raster for photos, vector for logos/icons. Our converter works with raster formats and can convert simple images to SVG vector format.
File extensions indicate the file format and tell your computer which program to use: .docx = Word document, .pdf = Portable Document Format, .jpg = JPEG image, .xlsx = Excel spreadsheet, .pptx = PowerPoint, .zip = compressed archive. Extensions help identify file types and ensure proper handling. Never change extensions manually - use proper conversion.
Business & Enterprise
Batch processing, API, and business features
Yes, our batch conversion feature allows processing multiple files simultaneously. Upload up to your file size limit across all files, select the output format, and convert all at once. Dedicated high-volume processing for enterprises is on our roadmap — see the enterprise items below.
A public REST API for programmatic file conversion — with batch processing and webhook notifications — is planned as part of our upcoming business tier. It is not available yet. In the meantime, the website itself is free with unlimited conversions and no sign-up.
A dedicated enterprise offering — higher file size limits, dedicated processing capacity, SSO, and priority support — is on our product roadmap and not available yet. Today, every visitor gets the same free service: files up to 100MB, batch conversion, no registration, and automatic file deletion within one hour.
Automated workflows — watch folders, event-triggered conversions, and cloud storage routing (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive) — are planned for a future release and depend on our API tier. They are not available yet. You can already batch-convert up to 100MB of files per job directly on the website.
White-label licensing — our conversion engine inside your own platform with your branding — is something we plan to explore in a future business tier. It is not offered today. If you are interested, email contact@swiftfileconvert.com so we can prioritize it.
Team features — shared conversion history, team quotas, centralized billing, and admin controls — are planned for a future business tier and are not available today. The service is currently per-browser: files convert without accounts, and nothing is stored beyond the one-hour auto-deletion window.
Volume pricing and unlimited business plans are planned alongside our future API and enterprise tiers. Today the entire service is free — no tiers, no quotas, and no account required — so there is nothing to price yet.
Custom format development for organizations with legacy or proprietary systems is a future enterprise offering, not something we can build on request today. If your format is common but unsupported, email contact@swiftfileconvert.com — we regularly add new formats based on user demand.
Third-party integrations (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, SharePoint, Zapier, Salesforce, Slack, Teams and similar) are planned for future releases together with our API tier — none are available today. Right now the fastest workflow is direct upload: drag files in, convert, and download.
We have not yet obtained formal certifications such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 — they are part of our security roadmap. What we do today: TLS 1.3 encryption in transit, files automatically deleted within one hour, no account data collected, GDPR-aligned handling, and hardened, sandboxed conversion infrastructure. Documentation is available on our GDPR Compliance page.
Answers marked Future update describe features on our roadmap that are not available yet.
